We used to hit old machines a lot to fix issues, and hitting worked as a black magic for a long time before everything started to get "smart". This installation is trying to bing up the retro feeling through the moments of hitting the old TV. Users would experience clearer image with further viewing distance, but the closer users get the blurrier the image could get. When the user's trying to fix the issue by hitting, a glitch effect would triggered instead. Therefore, a tension between the machine and the user is created through a "fighting" of access to image clarity, the interaction also brings a lively and playful character to the old machine.
